Another View: Getting fit in Tel Aviv
It is pre-summer which means it’s time to cut out the carbs, swear off the extra boozy nights a week and “work out” rather than “pig out” on the abs, thighs and buns.
The Tel Aviv winter is coming to an end and the hot, bikini wearing summer is near the horizon. This year I’m truly dedicated to getting in shape even if it means running the same stretch of the Tel Aviv beach hotels from Jaffa to North Tel Aviv every day. I’ve installed the Myfitness App and I’m ready to suck it up and prime my body for the beach.
Luckily for me and my “soon to be decreasing” belly, Tel Aviv is a real hot spot of activity when it comes to sport, all year round; there are outdoor and indoor opportunities to get you into shape. All along the promenade you will get the chance to witness at least 50 people doing one form of sport or another.
While I use the fantastic gym at SEA Executive Suites, because it’s easier to do strength training whilst sweating it out in in a clean air conditioned room than in the beating sun, free street gyms are everywhere. They usually have the basic machines where your body weight is used as a resistance, which in my case is a pretty good counter balance.
If you ask any personal trainer, increasing your cardio workout is a rather small part of getting in shape, and body conditioning and clean eating should be the major focus of prepping for the long summer sunbathing session. SEA Executive Suites runs a fantastic yoga session every Wednesday evening on the newly renovated rooftop. The experience is calming, breath-taking and good for working out your core.
There are also trainers you can set up group and individual sessions with, an example being Outdoor Fitness Israel which runs all kinds of strength and cardio group sessions across the city and on the beaches. They have a huge variety of classes and the trainers speak English.

You do not have to eat junk food as there are so many other healthier options all over Tel Aviv that cater to ever taste buds. With the rise in popularity in vegetarianism and vegan eating, there are more and more places that cater to such sensitivities. There really isn’t any reason not to eat well in the city.
The breakfast buffet at SEA Executive Suites is always fresh and healthy. Every morning there is a large spread of different dishes to choose from and wonderful breads. This is a fantastic way to start the day.
If you want to go out to eat, then I recommend Fresh Kitchen, basically because everything is” fresh” which immediately makes it healthier and it has a huge variety of healthy options gluten free, tofu type stuff and plenty of tasty smoothies.
Not forgetting that there is an amazing market at the Shuk HaCarmel, where you will find fresh produce of all kinds from breads to vegetables, meat and fish.
With great food options and endless sporting facilities, it’s time to get on your bike in Tel Aviv and get moving.
