The jewish new year has already started and Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement is upon us but that doesn’t mean there are no more holidays to look forward to in Tel Aviv. Next week marks the start of Sukkoth, one of the three ancient pilgrimage holidays mentioned in the 5 books of Moses as a time for the Jewish people to travel to the temple in Jerusalem, offer their sacrifices and pray for rain. In modern Israel Sukkoth is a hectic, happy time for both locals and visitors to get out and experience some of the many events that are happening all over the country. Whether you are looking for art, farmer’s markets, music or sports you can be sure to find something that will keep you busy during the holiday. Here is some inspiration for those of you that can’t seem to make up your mind about where to go and what to see!

Musical Performance at the Contemporary By Golconda Gallery 117, Herzl Street, Tel Aviv

The main exhibition currently on display titled “JEWS” is in itself an excellent reason to head down to the southern parts of the city. The exhibition features the works of three luminary Israeli artist, who through their own creative means, have conjured works that question the state, and nod towards the ironic difficulties of war and conflict with neighbouring Gaza, including those events that took place during the summer of 2014. On Friday, September 25 from 12.00 to 13.00 the gallery is opening their doors to a musical event set in the middle of Avital Geva’s installation work “Shofariym” consenting of massive orange-colored pipes placed along the walls of the gallery. The show, aptly named “Tekioth”brings song and music with Shofars and pipelines and hosts Giora Feidman and Miri Grossberg on the Clarinet as well as vocal of Kobi Grossman.

Gypsy Philharmonic Orchestra in Tel Aviv The Mann Auditorium, 1 Huberman Street, Tel Aviv

The Gypsy Philharmonic Orchestra of Budapest is scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv, Israel, in October 2015 for the first time ever bringing with them 70 musicians and virtuosos al set for a performance fine-tuned to perfection. The orchestra was declared Philharmonic in 2014, after 30 years of performing as the worldwide gypsy orchestra of Budapest. The Gypsy Philharmonic Orchestra has been recognized by the Hungarian Parliament as a representative of Hungary’s true music so be prepared to be transfigured by the alluring music of Hungary.

The Gypsy Philharmonic Orchestra will hold two performances on October 16 and 17, 2015 at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Hiromi: The Trio Project Performance at Hangar 11, The Port of Tel Aviv

Hiromi, the grammy award winning jazz pianist is returning to Tel Aviv with a brand new show called Hiromi: The Trio Project. Born in Japan, Hiromi began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and performing in public by the age of 12. She played with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra when she was 14 and after graduating from college in the United States, produced her debut album, “Another Mind.” For her new show she will be joined by famous bass guitarist Anthony Jackson and virtuoso drummer Simon Phillips. The trio has worked together since 2011 and have produced three albums together so there is plenty of material for a captivating show.
