Celebrate Israel’s Independence Day in Tel Aviv

Share

Yom Ha’atzmaut is always an exciting time in Israel, but especially in Tel Aviv. The countless events and performances across the city are all so incredible that it’s hard to decide on what to see and where to go! And of course, the tradition BBQ (mangal) that takes place every year on Independence Day across the country is also widespread in Tel Aviv. So, What are the best ways to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut in Tel Aviv?

The Evening Celebrations

Rabin Square (Kikar Rabin)
After the somber day of mourning on Yom Hazikaron, the evening of Yom Ha’atzmaut begins in such high energy and joy. With top Israeli singers, fireworks, singing and dancing, the holiday energy in Rabin Square is not to be missed. From young kids to the older crowd you can see people decked out in hats with the Star of David, or walking around with a massive Israeli flag draped around them. There are also the flag wavers proudly holding Israeli flags of all sizes. As the square fills up with hundreds of people, anxiously waiting for the festivities to begin, the crowd spills out onto the streets, and the entire area around the square turns into a large street celebration in addition to the performances and fireworks happening inside the square. If you want to get a seat, be sure to arrive one hour before the event is set to begin. You will be happy that you did!

Street Parties

If you are more a street party type, all you have to do is make your way down to Rothschild Blvd after 10 pm and you are guaranteed to see masses of people celebrating on the streets. You can always start at Rabin Square early in the evening, take it all in–the beautiful, exciting and celebratory atmosphere–then head to Rothschild and celebrate with all the young people until the wee hours of the morning.

The Following Day Celebrations

On the day of Yom Ha’atzmaut, there are only two things on people’s minds: BBQ and the airshow.

In Tel Aviv, many people flock to the beach to watch the airshow over the water, but it can get a bit crowded. A great alternative is to watch the airshow in a peaceful setting away from the crowds. You can have the best front row seat if you choose for accommodation a hotel located in the hotels strip of Hayarkon Street for your stay in Tel Aviv. You can relax in leisure and watch the spectacular show from the stunning rooftop!

After the show you can head to one of the parks for your BBQ or even just stay on the beach! If you choose to join the BBQ fun, Park Hayarkon is one popular spot, and another great alternative is Independence Park (Hayarkon and Nordau).

In any case, you will want to stay at a hotel near the beach, in the heart of Tel Aviv, and in close proximity to the amazing Independence Day celebrations. Such a hotel is the Sea Executive Suites boutique hotel! The hotel is centrally located, right across from the beach and close to all the best attractions, restaurants and Independence Day Celebrations.
